Jakarta (Greeners) – President Joko Widodo said that Indonesia’s forest management should no longer based on routines and monotonous and asked for all stakeholders to bring out innovative breakthroughs for sustainable forest management to be in line with economic improvement.
“We no longer think on linear routines, never make any breakthroughs, resulted our forest management stays in monotonous position for the past few years,” said President Widodo while attending Environmental Day 2017 event in Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/8).

The reason he underlined forest management in Indonesia, he added, was because there has not any good change for many years. He admitted the needs for major correction for forest management breakthrough to be implemented.
“We can take examples of Sweden and Finland in forest management. It is not difficult, we just copy. We take them as examples, we take them as samples. Sent [people] from Ministry of Environment and Forestry there, we’ll learn so that we understand the economics and environment,” he said.

At the same event, President Widodo also opens National Working Meeting 2017, Climate Change National Week and Environmental Generation Camp for Conservation, which will be held from Aug 2-4. In addition, he also handed over green awards for individuals, groups, heads of regional administration and schools for their efforts in preserving the environment.
Recipients of Nirwasita Tantra are governors of East Java, West Sumatra, and DKI Jakarta, bupaties of Malang, Dharmayasa, and Sukoharjo, mayors of Surabaya, Balikpapan, and Bukittingi.
Meanwhile, recipients of Adipura are Surabaya mayor, Tangerang mayor, Balikpapan mayor, Malang mayor, bupaties of Kudus and Jombang.
